YAY!!! I got my internship at the Embassy Suites Hotel which is one of Hilton Hotel branches!!! Soooo EXCITED!! LOL
I am gonna start my internship next Tuesday InshAllah . .
And as I promised, I would share my experience of Mid-Year Retreat, now I gonna continue with it instead of telling you what happened today when I met my internship supervisor at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
So after we spent couple of hours in Antelope Canyon, we head to Grand Canyon. It took about 3 or 4 hours. May be for some people it was a long journey, but for me it was not, since I spent my time talking to some of my new friends to get to know them. I did not want to spend my time sleeping in the bus because if I just slept rather than talking with them, it will just waste my time since one of the goals of the retreat is to meet and to know my CCC family members. During the journey we made one stop where we could buy some gifts including necklace and bracelet. Well, I did not buy anything because I knew I would spend my money in Grand Canyon for gifts. I just took some pictures because the view was really beautiful.

After spending about 30 mins there, we drove to Grand Canyon. Our second destination. We arrived there around 3 PM. Once we arrived, everybody was so starving because we did not get lunch. So, Paul (our best leader, Allison's husband) gave us time about 1 hour to eat something because we planned to go to see sunset. Everybody loaded their luggage to the hotel room and went to the cafeteria to eat.
At 4:00 we went to see the sunset, unfortunately, I could not see sunset because I walked really slow and I was also really busy in taking pictures and busy to be in the pictures hahaha . . well most of people did not get chance to see sunset on our first day in Grand Canyon. I was little upset, but then I realized that I would have time the next day to see sunset. Thanks God, that time I had my photographer that helped me to take my pictures LOL. Thank you very much, my photographer LOL.
Here are some of the picts from Grand Canyon :)
After taking lot of pictures, without seeing sunset, we went back to the Maswik Lodge, a place where we stayed for two days. At 6.15 until 7.15 we had dinner. One thing I love about this retreat is that every time we had time for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I had more time to know about other people/students from Virginia, San Francisco, and Miami. I have lot of conversation with them about what their goals are, what they want to do once they get back to their home countries, etc. Sort of exploring from one country to another country by joining them in their tables. Also I learnt some phrases of Urdu from my Pakistani and Indian friends.
At 7. 30 PM, we had another session which was a perspective of who CCC is in history.
Well, CCC is a new consortium because it has just started about one and half years ago. Our group is the second group. Dr. Syedur Rahman was our speaker that night. He is one of my favorite people in my life. Whenever he talks, there is always something that I learn from him. He is a really wise and best leader for us. FYI, He is the Director of our Consortium. He discussed how he got into our Consortium. During the session, there are some of friends that asked couple of questions which were related to the Consortium. The session was really useful because some of us did not know the history of CCC itself and Dr. Syedur also taught us about communication. Since that night, I cannot forget his statement " the one who makes rules will be always the winner." He wanted us to know that in doing something, we have to know how those things works first before deciding to do it or not to do it because we look stupid or fool when we do something that we do not know how it works. Wonderful statement that inspired most of us I think. He also told us a quote from Hillary Clinton " Talent is universal, but opportunity is not." The quote has a really huge meaning for me. In this life, every person is born with the talent and it is universal, but there are only few people who get opportunity in this life and only those people who take initiative will grab those opportunities. What an inspiring quote. I wish we all will always want to take initiative for everything that we want to do, we should not wait the opportunity to come to us. We should look for it if we want to be succeeded.
Overall, whatever Dr. Syedur said during the session, it is always inspired us. He also made some jokes :) that's why we did not get bored to hear him talking although we were sleepy and tired.
The session was done around 9:20.
Everybody went to bed because we had a really long day. I went to bed around 10.15 because planned see Sunrise.
In the morning I woke up at 5.26 because I thought that it is better to walk at 6 since the Sunrise would be at 7.20 and we had to walk to see the Sunrise. Unfortunately, I was too early because Dr, Syedur and some of friends came at 7 and we started to walk at 7.10. It was not that bad actually and it was not late for us to see the Sunrise. That morning, I made a new friend. Her name was Nancy. She is really nice and friendly. First time I talked to her just because I wanted to move to other side of Grand Canyon so we could see the Sunrise better since our first spot was blocked. She is from Kenya and studying in Virginia. We went to other side of Grand Canyon while other friends stayed in our first spot where they could not really see the perfect Sunrise.
Nancy from Kenya :) |
After Breakfast, all of us had a Bus Tour of Grand Canyon. We left the hotel around 9.30. We went to the West side of the Grand Canyon.
I will continue sooner inshAllah.
Hope you guys enjoy my story although my English is really awful LOL.
